On a beautifully sunny Saturday in September (there's a tongue-twister for you!), I headed to London with my friend Abby to go to Kirsty Allsop's Handmade Fair. I'd never been before and didn't really know what to expect, but it definitely didn't disappoint.
When we arrived all you could see was a field of white marquees and we didn't really know where to begin. There were 2 main marquees full of local traders who made all sorts from sewing patterns to homemade pottery and even a rubber stamp maker. This was like heaven to me and I could have spent a fortune, but I was actually quite a good girl...for once! Then there were all the yummy food stalls. There was so much choice, but we ended up having some of the best stone baked pizzas for lunch I've ever had (although slightly regretting not taking advantage of the creperie stall!). There was also lots of other marquees that were taken up by more well-known craft businesses like Hobbycraft, Annie Sloan and Sizzix and lastly there were marquees for people do their workshops in.
The ticket included entrance into your choice of 3 workshops. First up was entrance to the super theatre where we choose to watch Sof McVeigh from the Homemade Company. We learned lots of tips and tricks on how to make homemade beauty products like facial oils and scrubs which was really interesting and something I definitely want to try for myself. For our grand make workshop, we choose to learn how to make a wire photo frame which was really cool.
But most excitingly, we were lucky enough to do a skills workshop with the Biscuiteers, a brand I am totally obsessed with at the moment! We learned lots of different icing techniques and could practice them on some of their pre-cooked butterfly biscuits. This was the highlight of the day for me and the Biscuiteers baking book is top of my Christmas wishlist this year!
For the unusually summery day, I decided to wear this H&M playsuit. As soon as I saw it in the shop I knew I had to have it! I paired it with my leather jacket just in case the weather decided to change and, of course, a trusted fedora hat which has seen better days and I should probably invest in a new one!
All in all we had such a nice day, and I definitely want to return next year (and I'm even eyeing up the Christmas one too!)
