Outside, the temperature really started to drop at the weekend and whilst I'm praying we've not seen the last of the sun just yet, I am starting to prepare for the dry skin that comes as a result of that colder weather. I think I've said it so many times on this blog but I really do have horribly dry skin. It's taken me quite some time but I've finally found some amazing products and got myself into a great routine that really helps.
CLINIQUE 7 DAY SCRUB CREAM
Always, always, always make sure you are exfoliating during the winter months. Don't let layers of dead skin build up so your products can't penetrate the skin below. I like to use a gentle exfoliator which is why I've been loving the Clinique 7 Day Scrub Cream which I've nearly run out of (sob)! This scrub has micro beads that gently polish all those pesky dead skin cells away to leave your skin feeling smooth and clear. I always seem to get the worst dry skin on my nose so I really focus on this area using small circles.
SUPERFACIALIST VITAMIN C+ SKIN RENEW CLEANSING OIL
Wowsers! Long name aside, this product really has worked wonder on my skin. The thought of using a cleansing oil hadn't even crossed my mind until I saw this Superfacialist one on Vivianna's blog. I used to put off cleansing because my skin would feel horribly tight after. But I don't get that feeling when I use this product. Just rub a few drops all over your skin, wash off and then repeat if you've been wearing make-up is all it takes to get skin that feels clean, fresh and not to mention hydrated!
KIEHLS SKIN RESCUER
This is the most recent addition to my skincare routine but for the past month or so I've been reaching for the Kiehls Skin Rescuer for my twice daily dose of hydration. Not only does it contain glycerin and shea butter (two ingredients on the top of my list when looking for a good quality moisturiser), but Skin Rescuer creates a barrier on your skin to help prevent water loss and therefore locks in that hydration. Not to mention the fact that it also helps to even my skin tone to reduce the redness on my cheeks. A win, win product in my eyes (insert thumbs up emoji here)
LUSH MASK OF MAGNAMINTY
I've done a whole post on the best Lush face masks that hydrate my skin, so I'm not going to dwell on this one for too long but I highly recommend adding a weekly face mask into your routine if you're prone to dry skin. I typically use Oatifix but I've found myself reaching for Mask of Magnaminty more and more of late because it's such a great multi-purpose mask that cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates.
BURTS BEES LIP BALM
Last but certainly not least is use a good lip balm. Winter brings with it those dreaded flaky lips which I definitely end up picking at and making the situation worse. But I carry a lip balm around with me all the time, a habit I picked up from my friend Alex, and try to use it as often as I can remember. A Burts Bees one is my favourite as there's a range of yummy flavours to choose from but my firm favourite is this coconut and pear flavour, heaven!
