Watch out contouring!
Strobing is that buzz word that's been thrown around a lot this year and whilst it seems to be new on the beauty block, the idea has actually been around for a long time. Strobing is the idea of using a highlighter to emphasise the high points of your face like your cheek bones or the bridge of your nose.
We quite often pair highlighting with contouring but I've never been great at the whole contouring thing, so I thought I'd give strobing a go to see what the fuss was about, and when done properly the result is beautiful, fresh and glowing skin.
A lot of strobing products have recently come on the market to capitalise on the buzz but you can use any highlighter you currently have. The key to whatever highlighter you choose to use is to make sure it's s shimmery one, not a glittery one. You don't want to make yourself look like a human disco ball now do you! Oh and those with oily skin don't think this one isn't for you, just opt for a matte highlight!
So how do you get the look?
Start by applying your base layer as you normally would. Take your cream highlighter, I use a multiple from Nars called Copacabana (which looks a little pink in the picture but I promise you it's more of a pearly colour), and apply it to your cheekbones, bridge of your nose, your cupids bow, centre of your chin, the arch of your brows and the inner corner of your eyes. Make sure it's all blended in with a brush, sponge or just use your good old fingers! Now take a face powder, it doesn't have to be translucent, and apply a light layer all over your face to set it. Lastly, take a fluffy brush and a powder highlight, I'm using MACs Pigment in Vanilla, to go over all of those same spots to really emphasise the shine and voila! A shine that lasts all day!
