ASOS Sale Top Picks

The past 2 days I've been seeing a lot of people going mad about ASOS's current sale, I am a wee bit poor at the moment so decided to play a game with myself. If I could pick one thing out of each category what would it be?! So here's my top picks...

This beautiful coat is from a brand called Darling. As soon as I saw it I was like WOW! Its such a pretty pattern and I think if I was to wear it I would definitely feel a little bit like Kate Middleton or at least feel I should be going to Ascot or something posh! I first came across the brand Darling in a shop in Cheltenham (which is where I go to uni btw folks!) and it is a little bit on the pricey side. However you can always get a good bargain in the asks sale and I've also noticed quite a few of their items in T K Maxx!

I love these Steve Madden shoes! I've been looking for a cute pair of shoe boots like this for ages and definitely found the pair I want! The fringe detail is perfect and right on trend at the moment. And with them being wedges it makes them easier to walk in. Bonus!

I'm definitely not great when it comes to handbags. I usually use the same one for about 6 months (or until I trash it) and then buy a new one and never use the old one again! This is a habit I am trying so hard to get out of. I want to build up my handbag collection with lots of new styles and colours and I think this bag definitely fits the bill. This ALDO bag is beautiful and eye catching and would spruce up any dull outfit.

Last but by no means least beauty! My favourite! Theres not an awful lot of make-up in the ASOS sale but I did find some items form a brand I've been meaning to try out. Pixi recently came out with a line inspired by Tinkerbell from Peter Pan. This highlighter, or fairy dust as they call it, is designed to give a glowing, luminous finish to anyones make-up.

L'oreal Glam Shine Miss Candy

I recently tweeted about Superdrug having a 3 for 2 offer on all their products and decided to indulge in a few more lip products (as of I didn't have enough but shhh I won't tell if you don't!)

The latest addition to L'oreals lipglosses are the Miss Candy glosses. They are two tone lip glosses that mix well to create a beautiful colour with their 'swirl technology'. I purchased 2 of the 6 available in the colours 'Bubble Pink' and 'Miss Candy'. Bubble Pink is a lovely everyday coral colour which blends in well with your natural lip colour whereas Miss Candy is a clear sparkly colour (despite looking lilac in the bottle) which gives any matte lipstick a new lease of life with a sparkly finish.

As non of the other colour took my fancy I decided to try one of the caress lipsticks in the shade 'Cheeky Magenta'. As you can see in the picture below (although a little dark, sorry!) its a bright fushia colour which a gorgeous shine. I find this lipstick to be long lasting and really moistures my lips at the same time. Bonus!

All these products are available to buy from Superdrug and Boots. The Miss Candy glosses are £7.65 and the Caresse lipsticks are £7.99

Mulberry Del Rey

My latest label lust is for the new Mulberry Del Rey handbag which is named after the artist herself, Lana Del Rey.

The Del Rey is simple and chic with a vintagey design which definitely suites Lana's style. It comes in colours including Black, Brown, Red and Blue. My personal fav is the gorgeous red which would go perfectly with most outfits.

Mulberrys Del Rey is available now for £795 in shops and online at www.mulberry.com

I best start saving my pennies....

Hunger Game Inspired Nails

The Hunger Games hype may be over but I'm still loving the nails which Effie Trinket wore during the reaping in the film. I decided to try it out on myself today and thought I'd share what I did. Instead of the pink like Effie was wearing I decided to go for an orange as it was a colour that I had which went well with the gold glitter I have already. This is a really easy tutorial and is great because you can personalise it to your own style!

What you'll need

  • A base and top coat (I'm using Barry M's all in one)
  • A foundation colour (I'm using China Glaze's 'Jamaican Out')
  • A glitter nail polish (I'm using OPI's 'Up Front and Personal')
  • Sponges
  • Cotton Buds

How to get the look
    1.    Start off by applying a base coat to protect your nails and give an even surface.

    2.    Apply one or two coats of your foundation colour depending on how thick you want the colour to be. I use one coat in the picture below. Wait about 5 minutes for it to dry

    3.    Paint the edge of your sponge with the colour you have chosen to blend in.

    4.    Gently sponge the colour onto your nails approximately three quarters of the way down and allow to dry. Repeat step 3 and apply half way down the nail to give a more opaque colour on the top half of your nail.

    5.    To get rid of any excess nail polish on your skin, use a cotton bud dipped in nail varnish           remover and gently remove the nail polish.

    6.    Apply a top coat to seal in the design.

Top Tips
  • If all the nail polish does not come off of your skin, don't worry! Wait for your nails to dry and take a shower. This always works for me!

Review: The Sparkler All Over Shimmer by The Body Shop

Just before christmas I managed to get my hands on this very sought after body glitter from The Body Shop. BUT until last weekend I totally forgot about it (silly me!). I used it this past Saturday on a night out with my friends and I must say it will be a staple product for me on nights out in the future. The  limited edition item is a shimmery powder with flecks of glitter which can be used all over the body including your hair! I used it on my legs and chest area to give me a little sparkle. I avoided using it on my face because I didn't want to look like a disco ball! But I'm sure with careful application it would make you stand out from the crowd.

So whats good about it?
It comes in two colours; silver/pink and gold. I opted for the silver/pink as I have pale skin so it would suit my skin tone better. It gives your skin the perfect shimmer and it looks really pretty on your dressing table too!

And the bad...
The atomiser was quite expensive, about £15 if I remember rightly and being limited addition make sit hard to get your hands on.

London Shopping Haul

My sister has been nagging me to go shopping to London with her for a long time and we finally found time to go yesterday. We booked our tickets weeks in advance to get the best deal and in the end it only cost me £20 to get the train there, including an oyster card (thank you student rail card), and if you live in my part of England you know thats an absolute bargain. Anyway I thought I would show you some things I brought whilst on our little shopping trip.

Lets start with clothes because this is the main reason we went! We really wanted to see what the Forever 21 was like in the UK. I've heard reports that it is not as good in the UK as it is in the USA however I was thoroughly impressed with it. Apart from the fact its not as cheap as in the US (but still affordable prices nevertheless) I found there to be a large selection with on trend pieces and friendly staff. I only bought 3 items but intend on saving saving saving and going back for my birthday in August. The first item I brought was a simple white sheer vest top with a tie bow. For only £8.75 this was an absolute bargain and now I wish I had bought it in navy too! The next top I purchased was a beautiful baby pink blouse with detailing around the neck for £14.75. It is sheer again too however has a texture to the material. The last thing I bought was a coral polka-dot dress, again with a tie bow around the neck. I thought this would be lovely to wear during summer with a pair of wedges and would be perfect for a variety of occasions. The dress again cost £14.75 which I thought was an amazing price for such a nice item.

The next shop we went to was the newly opened Gilly Hicks on Regent Street. it is joined with Hollister next door and is absolutely huge! I have to admit to getting lost a few times. I bought a white slouch top for £18 which would look great with a simple pair of denim shorts and flip-flops on any summers day. I also got a simple t-shirt for £20. I'm a sucker for wearing t-shirts, I just find them so comfy!

Now lets move on to the beauty items! Again, I purchased 3 items, 2 of which were essential purchases because I had run out! I needed a new cleanser and felt like a change from my normal. As I said in my New York haul I have been using the Benefit Facial Emulsion and have been so impressed I thought I would try something else from the line so went for the Foamingly Clean Facial Wash. It was £16.50 and hopefully will live up to my expectations. Whilst in the Benefit shop, I also thought I would try out the It's Real mascara that everyone has been raving about as I needed a new mascara anyway. I'm yet to try this out yet but as soon as I do I'll let you know what I think. Lastly, whilst having a little look around Selfridges in the Chanel section, my eye caught this beautiful lipgloss in Jalousie. The picture below does not do it justice at all. It is a beautiful fuchsia pink lipgloss which is highly pigmented. £20 is not what I would normally spending on a lipgloss but I couldn't resist this little gem.

One to add to the wish list...

Just a quick one to say how much I'm in love with these MissGuided Lendy Strappy Suede Platform Wedges. Aren't they just fabulous? They look quite high, but with the platform and wedge I think they would be easier to walk in. They come in 5 different colours and at £36.99 don't break the bank. Well done MissGuided!

New York Beauty Haul!

Last week I went to New York with my sister and cousin on a mini girly get away. It was just what I needed after a stressful beginning to my university term. But now I'm back and I thought I would share some of the beauty purchases that I made during our stay, baring in mind that I saved for half a year for this trip! I feel this could be quite a lengthy blog so here goes...

The first thing I was looking for was a new everyday foundation. I've been wearing the MAC Mineralize foundation in NC15 (yes, I'm very pale!) but I've found that its very heavy for a day to day look and I was after something that still gives me the coverage I need but not as heavy. The lady at the MAC counter suggested the MAC Matchmaster foundation in 01 and I'm glad she did! I'm very lucky with my skin in that it's rare I break out but I do have red cheeks and nose and this foundation does the perfect job in evening out my skin tone. I can hardly feel I have any foundation on at all!

Next thing from MAC I got was something Ive needed for a long time, a bronzing brush. As mentioned before I am very pale so I don't go over board on the bronze but I was looking for a brush that would give me a nice glow and save me from cleaning my blush brush every two minutes. So low and behold I got my hands on the MAC109 Small Contour brush. I highly recommend all MAC brushes (probably like every person who uses MAC) and think that make up brushes, whilst being very expensive at times, are definitely worth investing your money in.

I'm definitely a lipstick girl as you will be able to tell through this blog. I think a bright lip is the perfect way to jazz up any make up look. I like my lips to look shiny but I'm not keen on stickiness, so whilst having a look round I discovered for the first time the Sheen Supreme Lipstick. Yes I know they have been out a while but I'm a bit behind! Anyway, these lipsticks are the perfect mix of a lipstick anda lipgloss which is perfect for me. The colour is called Behave yourself and is lovely for everyday looks.

I don't always wear eye shadow everyday but when I saw this eye shadow quad I had to try it out. Its from the Shop MAC collection which is out in the USA but I don't think it's out in the UK quite yet. Its called Shop & Drop and contains all the colours you need to create a purple.pink look with your eyes. The colours are Sugar Snack (Matte), Hypnotising (Frost), Power Boosted (Veluxe Pearl) and Shop & Drop (Satin). I'm particularly a fan of hypnotising which is a frost and glides over your eyes like a dream.

And last but by no means least is the brand new Viva Glam Nicki Minaj Lipstick! I was so excited to see this in the shop and colour is to die for. As much as I loved Viva Glam Gaga, and still do I might add, this is definitely going to become my staple lipstick for a night out on the town. The colour is a beautiful coral satin lipstick and I'm looking forward to wearing it as soon as possible!

I only own one NARS lipgloss and I love it! The texture is perfect, not to sticky and they have beautiful colours. I got my hands on one of the larger than life lip glosses in Born This Way. It reminds me of MACs Morning Glory but without the glitter. I love the packagings for NARS products, this lipgloss looks very smooth, sleek and sophisticated.

The last thing from NARS was my first multiple! I've wanted to try one of these babies for ages but the price has always put me off. This colour is called Copacabana and looks beautiful on pale skin tones. I'm not sure how universal this product is, I think I'll mainly use it for highlighting.

Bobbi Brown

I've never really been all that into Bobbi Brown, I've always looked at the products and thought they were nice but there was never anything that pushed me to buy something until I saw the new Rose Gold collection. The collection contains two shimmer bricks and a bunch of lip products which I'm sad to say I didn't buy any for some reason. Big regret there! When the collection hits the UK I'll definitely be picking a few of those up! But I'm very happy I purchased the Shimmer Brick in Rose Gold. The colour creates soft warm glow which is going to be perfect for the summer I can tell.

The last purchase of the holiday was a Rouge Volupte Perle Lipstick from YvesSaintLaurent in the colour 114 Fuchsia Scintillant. This was a last minute impulse buy as I had no intention of spending anymore, damn the god sales guy in Macys! But anyway I immediately feel in love with the packaging and was sold. The lipstick case is gold in colour and features a pink band of colour with the YvesSaintLaurent logo surrounding the tube. The colour may look a little scary to some people but it is very sheer on the first application and can be built on for a more intense colour. At $37 it was very pricey, I don't know if I would have brought this if I was at home but I'm glad I did as it's nice to try new brands all the time.

(from left to right; YvesSaintLaurent 114, MAC Viva Glam Nicki, MAC Behave Yourself and NARS Born This Way)

I can't wait to show you lots of make-up looks with this bundle of joy and maybe a fashion haul will follow.

Until next time!

Toay's nails are all about Barry M

I went to my local Superdrug at the weekend and picked up two new pastel colours from the Barry M range which I thought went well together and would be perfect for the spring. Your probably thinking I'm crazy because its still winter but yes I am using my nail colour to beat the winter blues!

The colours I used were Strawberry Ice Cream and Mint Green. For a fully qualified nail technician I'm not very good at painting my own nails! My usual trick is to paint pretty much my whole finger and then shower to get rid of the excess ha! If anyone has any tips on painting your own nails when you are totally clumsy with your hands it would be much appreciated! But for now I'm off to take a shower.
